Ok I just got a PM AGoT#3 from E-Bay and she is very pretty. There are 3 Problems though 1 - when she got here she smelled of Cigarette Smoke - YUCK 2- The Original Doll box was wrapped in Brown paper and shipped that way and the doll was wrapped in News Paper.
Yikes
Just e-mailed the seller

Aww, that is sad how they treated the doll. I hope everything turns out fine, and right now, let the doll outside. Maybe that will let the smoke leave. You could also wash her, if you are not afraid to do so. Joy had great instructions on how to do it.

Our Dorothy was an ebay purchase. I followed Joy's intructions for washing and was so pleased! We also did the downy dunk. Her hair is still only so-so but since she is really a Molly we just keep it braided. The instructions are easy to follow but having patience while she dried was hard. Good Luck!

I bought a Kaya doll and she (known) was from a smoking home. I washed her hair in baby shampoo twice, detached her body and laundered it, hanging it upside down to drip dry and washed the vinyl with baby wipes. Then she and her clothing hung out in the cool garage for two weeks and she came out smelling great. Good luck!
My mom was a heavy smoker and the smell does come out over time but you do need patience.

Thanks for all the hints.
I will probably try to let her air out a little and then if I need to I will wash her.

You ladies are not going to believe this:
I bought a Samantha that smelled of smoke and have spent about 4 months trying to de-scent her.
I have taken her apart and sent her body through the wash *twice* after first soaking her in febreeze. No luck.
I have washed her hair numerous times, and in between soaked it in febreeze. No luck.
I have carefully washed her face to a fair thee well, - no luck.
I have filled her head with charcoal, tried breath mints, and I've forgotten what all, and then washed the inside of the head out with soap and water - no luck.
I have now removed her wig in hopes of giving it a better washing, and trying to think what I can do with her body next - and the head - oh my goodness. What CAN be done with vinyl once it meets a cigarette?
The only part of her I was able to get clean ( and it only took on run throught he washing machine ) was her stuffing. It hangs in a lingerie bag and awaits the day it can remeet it's body.
I have left out mentioning several steps because I can't remember them all. Oh, yes, everything has been soaked in Miracle brand cat (and other, including smoke) odor remover
So, where can I find Joy's helpful hints? Anything else here I haven't thought of? BTW, this Samantha is really beautiful! However, smoking really does not become her.
Popsie
